A key development consideration, particularly with large sites and sites with variable topography, is the need to ensure that anticipated site levels, earthworks arrangements and overall cut vs fill requirements are considered at the most suitable stage in the overall project development process.
Our Civil Engineers use industry standard 3D terrain modelling and engineering design software (Autodesk Civil 3D and Infraworks) to design earthworks packages for developers which includes maximising materials re-use on site, setting finished formation, road and ground levels, determining road gradients, informing the design of retaining walls and embankments and developing detailed 3D Cut v Fill models.
We offer this service to our clients at all stages in the project development cycle from feasibility to Planning Application and detailed design in scenarios where developments are proposed on sloping terrain, located in sensitive landscape areas or where there is a requirement to achieve a neutral cut vs fill balance to avoid the need for costly import or export of soils to or from site.
Undertaking these assessments can also provide efficiencies as we are able to integrate with surface water (including SuDS) and wastewater drainage design and access / internal roads design within the same modelling package, which provides clear synergies and cost efficiencies for our clients. It also enables refinements, modifications and updates to be readily made across all elements of the design.
We typically support housebuilders and developers with combined road, drainage & earthworks design packages as well as informing the infrastructure design of onshore energy projects such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), wind farms and electrical substations.
