Gondolin Land & Water is celebrating five years of providing civil engineering and environmental consultancy services across the UK and Ireland.
Founded in 2021 by Managing Director Zak Ritchie, Gondolin Land & Water began as a small start-up in Leith. Within its first year, Stephen Donnan and Lauren Lees joined the business, followed by Richard Lucey in 2023 to strengthen Gondolin’s civil engineering capabilities.

Five years of growth
Over the past 5 years, Gondolin Land & Water has continued to grow, developing a team of 17 and establishing a new office in Leith. The company now provides a broad range of civil engineering and environmental services, supporting developers and clients across a diverse range of sectors throughout the UK.
With our incredible team, we frequently support our clients with flood risk assessments, onshore renewable energy infrastructure design, surface water and wastewater treatment, drainage design. We are now able to offer a wide variety of civil engineering and environmental assessment services to clients, a full list can be found here.
Reflecting on the company's journey over the past 5 years, Zak said:
“The company has come a very long way since 2021 which was started up in a small flat in Leith at the tail end of the COVID pandemic with my (very patient) wife Kassandra and 3 year old son. It has been an incredibly rewarding journey yet very challenging at times juggling a new business through rapid growth and being present for my young (and growing) family and friends.
However, the overwhelming feelings are being immensely proud of the brilliant Team we have brought together, the clients and partners we have had the pleasure of working with and the diversity of projects we have contributed towards across the UK and Ireland. Thank you to everyone who has supported and put their trust in us over the years and here’s hoping for many more.”
