Our Civil Engineers and Hydrologists have a keen interest and relevant experience in assessing and supporting the development of hydropower schemes which contributes towards the journey to Net Zero.
We can support landowners and developers through the full project development phases from initial feasibility studies, to planning application / post planning support, obtaining relevant abstraction licences and detailed construction design and site support. Key to maximising the efficiency / productivity of a hydropower scheme is consideration of important factors such as the site selection, scheme configuration / turbine selection, hydraulic head, land availability and site access, ground conditions, flow estimation and reliability, the presence of sensitive receptors (i.e. migratory fish, protected species) and proximity to statutory designations.
For larger schemes that are not at a mini, micro or domestic scale often an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) would be required by Local Planning Authorities. Our Team are also experienced in preparing the relevant EIA Chapters and undertaking consultation with statutory stakeholders to fully understand and mitigate potential impacts caused by larger-scale hydropower schemes.
