Gondolin have been working on a private wastewater drainage solution with Hawkswood Country Estate for over a year now, and are delighted that the proposed developments have been granted planning permission. It has been a fantastic team effort working with the teams at Brindley Associates and Montgomery Forgan Associates.
Our Solution: A Private Nature-Based Wastewater Drainage System
We were approached by Hawkswood Estate in 2022 to provide drainage support for their 5-star Country Estate development which includes a private airstrip, wedding chapel, swimming pool, café and luxury holiday lodges. When inquiring about a possible wastewater connection to the public sewer, our initial suspicions were confirmed by Scottish Water - there was insufficient capacity in the local treatment plant to facilitate this development, and a private wastewater solution was therefore required. The scope of our support included:
- Conducting thorough site investigations, including trial pit logging and soil percolation tests.
- Designing a tailored private wastewater drainage system, incorporating bespoke nature-based solutions such as reed beds / wetland / willow systems.
- Developing comprehensive plans for surface water drainage and sustainable drainage systems (SuDs).
The Next Steps: Detailed Design and Construction
Now that planning permission has been granted, we are gearing up for the next phase. Gondolin will be working with Hawkswood to navigate the detailed design stages, SEPA CAR consenting, and providing support throughout the construction phase.
